Circular economy practices are gaining traction in the Chinese businesses and are being applied across various sectors. These practices prioritize resource efficiency and waste reduction, leading to significant economic environmental benefits. Many companies have embraced circular economy principles by implementing strategies such as product redesign, closed-loop supply chains, and waste-to-energy conversion. During the webinar, our speakers Pamela Fandel from Merck Gorup and Richard Liu from Honor will share their company's strategies and experiences with circular economy implementation. Professor HuanZheng Du from Tongji University will also discuss how circular economy practices are being implemented.

Pamela Fandel

Merck Head of Merck Group Corporate Sustainability 默克集团企业可持续发展部负责人

Pamela Fandel joined Merck as Head of Corporate Sustainability in September 2022. Prior to that, she drove the sustainability and circular economy strategy at Werner & Mertz Group, an international consumer goods company (known for the Frosch brand) based in Mainz, Germany as Head of Sustainability & Quality Management. Before joining Werner & Mertz in 2016, she held various management positions at Panasonic Europe Ltd., where she was General Manager Eco & CSR Promotion from 2009 to 2016. She joined Panasonic in 2002 as a Manager in Planning and became Manager Legal & International Affairs in 2006 and Manager CSR Promotion in 2008. Pamela Fandel holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Bonn, Germany and a Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Value Chains from the University of Cambridge, UK.

Richard Liu 刘小军

ESG Director from HONOR 荣耀ESG办公室负责人、ESG总监

Mr. Richard LIU joined Honor Device Co., Ltd. in 2021, and is currently the ESG director in head of ESG Office. Mr. Richard LIU has been engaged in corporate social responsibility and corporate sustainable development since 2002. In 2016, he joined Huawei Device Co., Ltd. as the director of corporate sustainable development, responsible for the company's sustainable development strategy and the implementation of the programme on the ground. Before Huawei, he has worked in corporate social responsibility sector in global companies including Microsoft and Amazon. 刘小军先生2021年加入荣耀终端有限公司，目前是荣耀ESG办公室负责人。刘小军先生从2002年开始从事企业社会责任和企业可持续发展等工作，先后在微软、亚马逊等外企从事社会责任工作，并于2016年加入华为终端有限公司，任企业可持续发展总监，负责公司可持续发展战略制定和方案落地执行。

Prof. Huanzheng Du 杜欢政教授

同济大学特聘教授、联合国环境署-同济大学环境与可持续发展学院、马克思主义学院双聘教授、同济大学生态文明与循环经济研究所所长、同济大学可持续发展与新型城镇化智库主任

Professor Huanzheng Du is a specially appointed professor at Tongji University, as well as a concurrent professor at the United Nations Environment Programme-Tongji University Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development and the School of Marxism. They also serve as the director of the Institute of Ecological Civilization and Circular Economy and the head of the think tank for Sustainable Development and New Urbanization at Tongji University.
